Another Test [Nov. 20th, 2006|11:07 pm]
I took a test and it said this about me:

The Phlegmatic / Melancholic

The phlegmatic-melancholic is introverted (though less so than the melancholic-phlegmatic), which means that his deep emotions and anxieties tend not to be clearly expressed. They tend to react extremely slowly when confronted by antagonism or strong emotions. They are personable, quiet, and gentle. They value harmonious relationships. When you are first entering a relationship with a phlegmatic-melancholic, you may be struck by how easy-going and agreeable they are, but be aware that they are not revealing the depth of their emotions to you. They are deeply sensitive and value harmony and high ideals within a relationship. As a result of his delayed and sometimes dull response, a phlegmatic-melancholic will be slower to speak out, tempted to procrastinate, and reticent. They may appear – or believe themselves -- at times to be “lazy.” At times when the melancholic aspect dominates, he will have plenty of time in which mull over in his mind what his response should have been. He may become easily offended (though he may not reveal this to you) or discouraged. The phlegmatic attentiveness to relationships, and to getting along and keeping the peace, will “take the edge off” some of the melancholic tendency to perfectionism and critical judgments of others. On the other hand, because he may be more easily offended, he may want to be critical of others yet hesitant to confront directly. The dominance of the phlegmatic temperament may also drive the melancholic proclivity to order and neatness out of the picture.

If you are a phlegmatic-melancholic, you will show a cooperative spirit and a desire to please, and will value harmonious relationships. You are particularly gifted in teaching, mediating among groups, and at counseling individuals. And though yours isn’t the most dynamic temperament, your lack of defensiveness, calmness under pressure, and gift for mediation in critical situations can make you a very effective servant-leader, one who is willing to roll up his sleeves and work along with those he leads by example.

This temperament combination can face at times a greater challenge to his confidence than other temperaments (especially the choleric or sanguine). For this reason, when you are facing a major challenge or have been given a multi-faceted and demanding project, it will be absolutely critical for you to maintain your level of energy and motivation — not to mention your prayer life-- to complete the project. You will want to anticipate the way your moods can get you off track, and take concrete steps to maintain accountability in order to remain focused and energized throughout the task. Motivational tapes, exercise and a healthy diet, spiritual guidance, and a strong sacramental life will be critical. You will also need to maintain your focus on the big picture at all times, and not be distracted by the “urgent” demands of the moment, or by what other people may ask of you. To this end, it is always wise to seek regular professional, personal, and spiritual guidance from qualified individuals. In order for the phlegmatic temperament to achieve success and reach his goals, he should always work with a motivational program that provides structure, inspires confidence, and ensures accountability.

If you are phlegmatic-melancholic, it’s likely that you are a bit more upbeat than the melancholic-phlegmatic, a little less introverted, more trusting, slightly less moody, more generous with your time, and a more gracious host. You will rarely find yourself angry (though your feelings may be easily hurt), forgive more readily, and do not hold onto hurts in the same way that a more dominantly melancholic temperament would. You are compassionate, sensitive, caring, and tend to gravitate to the helping professions. You are a patient and caring teacher. You are not as “perfectionist” as a pure melancholic, and generally struggle with organization, planning, and a tendency to procrastinate. You find it difficult to set limits or turn someone down who asks a favor of you; you may be especially drawn to volunteer or missionary work, the apostolate, or other works of mercy. Though very generous, you may find it difficult to set priorities or limits. Your phlegmatic side makes it hard to say “no” – although you really want to. Sometimes your generosity can result in not enough time to “get organized,” be prepared, or to relax. Burn-out and feeling overwhelmed may result.

A question for the ages! [Oct. 25th, 2006|10:28 pm]
Steve posed this question which I truly find very puzzling: Who would Superman vote for? Would he be a Democrat or a Republican? For he would have to vote for he fights for the American way, but who would he vote for? If you have any answers please let me know.

The first in a while. [Aug. 13th, 2005|01:02 pm]
Well, I have been back from Chicago for a while now. It was a wonderful experience and would not have traded it for the world. The Jesuits are by far the coolest people in the entire world. I worked in a Spanish speaking community on the South side of the city. Where I helped out at the locale Jesuit parish St. Procopius and taught basic English at the Poder learning center. It was a wonderful time. I have missed all of my friends while gone. Now I return to say good bye. The time in Cincy has been wonderful hanging out with people, the prime example being a journey to King’s Island with Chris and Katie LaJeunesse. We went on the bungee drop thing, which was just great. Either way I am sort of lonely at times given many people whom I spend time with are out of the city. I sort of fear the start of the new school year and the differences that will be felt from last year. Either way so goes life. This is a conversation I figured I would share with the world between Steve and myself I just thought it was cool.

This sounded like fun [Mar. 30th, 2005|09:55 pm]
Take the quiz: "What Kind Of Weapon Are you?"

Sword
You're the sword! Most definitely the most honorable and honest of weapons. You've been used for thousands of years to inflict pain and death on mankind. People see you as the most noble of weapons. Traditionally, you're the big brother of the gun. If a gun isn't available, a fighter will grab for you and try to take out their enemy. You're retired now, nobody really uses you in war, mankind has other... More disgusting methods now. You're good for a stab in the heart, the neck or the gut and everyone appreciates a death by a sword. The only people that use you anymore are either very stupid or very crazy. Murderer.

A Busy Week. [Nov. 18th, 2004|12:01 pm]
It has been an interesting time since I last posted. On Wednesday the local priest made many people quite upset, not least of being Aria. He did this by teaching to a group of impressionable college students that the Eucharist is not truly the body and blood and also by implying that Confession is not needed. The weekend was ever so fun, but at the same time fringed with sadness. Marriage of Figaro was just great. Most of it was done in English and the songs were in effect subtitled. Thus, it was completely accessible and I would say as funny as any comedy being shown at a movie theater. It was quite moving at certain scenes. However the same night we were all seeing Figaro a St. Mary’s college parishioner by the name of Mike Hayes died at the age of twenty. It really should have been expected the chap has had any health problems throughout his college years, but at the same time he had bounced back from death’s door no one really believed he would die. It hit St. Mary’s quite hard for he was in many ways the most cheerful and nice fellow you could want to meet. So, if you all could pray for his soul. On Saturday I was invited to Phi Mu’s semi-formal dance by Aria. It was quite fun event. I was ever so surprised by how much fun I had at the event. I even found myself on a few occasions, during the slow songs, on the dance floor. It was defiantly a new experience. As I am sure you can all imagine. Then on Sunday evening there was a service held at St. Mary’s in honour of Mike Hayes. It was quite a nice service.

My week so far has been quite busy. Monday was a day to study for the Latin exam I had on Tuesday. I must say memorizing case endings is not the must exciting things to do for a days events. On Monday evening I went to Fiat Lux, an apologetics group. Which really ended up with us going on random topics for awhile. We planned fun little event next Monday. We are going to watch all of the Monty Python’s movies in a row. This is or the benefit John, a friend from Kenya, who has not seen any Monty Python. Hopefully the event will go well.

Tuesday and today were days for taking of exams. I took a Latin exam yesterday, which we have not gotten back yet. I am quite worried about what I am going to get on it. I studied hard and did all my work so it is not like I could have improved it that much anyway. The vast majority of the class did not even come close to finishing the exam. Hopefully that means there will be a massive curve. Then today I took a exam in A History of the Roman Republic. I wrote on the Gracchi brothers, Marius, and Sulla. In writing about these distinguished men I filled up three blue books. I must say my hand was killing me after class.

This weekend seems like it will be fun. On Friday I am going back to St. Xavier to see the TX production of The Wizard of Oz. I am excited to get to see the new theater. Then Sunday is my birthday. It is also Millet Mass, which is where we only have one Mass for th week and thus te entire St. Mary’s community worships as one. It is exciting, and there is also a concert about focusing on Mary later that night. So, hopefully it shall be fun. I have just realized how boring this is just rambling on about random events. Maybe next time I will put some of my thoughts into the post. AMDG

Missing Mass. [Nov. 10th, 2004|05:08 pm]
The thing that I most enjoyed about this past summer was the fact that I was able to go to Mass nearly everyday. It was a great experience giving the first bit of everyday to God and being reminded of the way in which I should live the upcoming day. It was just wonderful to have been able to go to daily Mass and also not to have done it by my lonesome. For it must always be remembered that the Mass is a form of communal prayer. I am not saying that Mass is pointless if you do not know a soul in the church, but rather that it adds to the Mass to know people and have dear friends with you at Mass. Think on the difference one feels from going to a church while on the road and going at your home parish. I miss that so much since I have come to school. Whenever, I have wished to go to Mass it seems to me that school conspires to give me hoops to crowd out the Mass, and whenever I am actually able to make it to church Mass has been canceled and replaced by its pale imitation, a communion service. For example this week I really did not get much out of Sunday Mass because I was quite tired. To make up for this I have attempted to go to Mass on Monday and Tuesday and so far each day there was no Mass. This is because the resident priest, Fr. Len, is almost never actually at St. Mary's. He is always leading a retreat or doing this or that. He will in fact be gone the entirety of next semester. As Aria pointed out he seems to be more of an ordered priest as opposed to a diocesan priest, which does not really work when running an active parish. Fr. Len seems to be a nice guy and would be very good priest if he would ever actually stay at his parish. So, I miss Mass so very much. Also about the knowing a person at Mass I know plenty of people who go to daily Mass at St. Mary's, but in some ways one member of the community ruins the entire experience for everyone else. She is almost comically overly self-righteous, as if I am not. She has no opinion or suggestion which was not told directly to her by God almighty. So, yesterday I was at the communion service and the women in question decides she does not like the teaching of the presider so during the petitions she goes on for about five minutes with her own teaching, and then throughout the service she appears to be ignoring what is being said and praying merely to herself. Then she in effect orders the entire community to knell during the middle of the service. I feel bad about complaining about one women and her prayer life for I know I am not perfect when it comes to respecting the Mass or in my treating of other people, but it is what I am thinking about at the moment. From comments I have heard other say she is actually driving people away from the daily services.
To continue with my complaining, which is what writing in a livejournal seems to inspire, the Guided Prayer Retreat was canceled. I have been looking forward to this since last year. When I wanted to go but a requirement on the retreat was that you had to be an upperclassman. I have also been hearing nothing but praise of the retreat from Aria. So, I am very disheartened by its cancellation. I was looking forward to some time alone with God and also a break from my ever increasing frustration with school. Well, at least I will now be able to go see Mozart's Marriage of Figaro with Aria. I have wanted to see it for a while and I appreciate Aria for reminding me of it and coming to see it. For I know it is not really her cup of tea. However, I was really looking forward to the retreat.
Now on to the part of the post where I am not complaining about the silliest of things, yesterday was a great day. Firstly all my classes went well and I was able to find time to finish some of my reading from Plutarch and Genesis, the latter being for a very interesting project with Chris which I will have to talk about later. I was then able to talk to Adam for a small bit which was nice. Also talking to Chris and his co-host Electra was quite fun. Electra was able to give me all sorts of advice about playing baseball and also revealed the true extend of my relationship with Chris on the radio up at Notre Dame, which got me in some trouble with Miss Aria. I only hope that Adam never finds out about Chris and me for I would hate to ruin their beautiful relationship. After the radio incidence Aria came over after work looking very tired and cold. We went to a very nice Mexican restaurant here in Oxford. Its was very good food and a wonderful meal all round. We then watched some Monty Python. It was a fun evening.
A final thing I want to ramble on about is that while walking back to my dorm at about midnight. I found myself walking through a dark field. I looked up and saw numerous stars. I love the stars. It always reminds me of just how small my problems are on the grand scheme of things and also that the God who made the multitude of stars in the sky is also my creator. It gives one a very secure feeling. AMDG

An Inauspicous Start [Nov. 8th, 2004|07:25 pm]
I promised myself that I would post today. Here it is. My original post was nice and interesting, but then my computer died. My second attempt at posting met with a similar fate. So, this is my third try. It is by far shorter than the other two. Hopefully in the upcoming week I shall post something with some sort of information in it. Until then let me tell you that I hate technology with a passion. I however have been victorious over it and have met my obligation of posting. It has been a hard road but to quote Sir Winston Churchill: "We have not journeyed across the centuries, across the oceans, across the mountains, across the prairies, because we are made of sugar candy." Thus, I have kept my word on this horrible day of nothing quite going right for I am not made of sugar candy.AMDG
